Ex-Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh Urges PM Modi For CBI Probe Into CGPSC Over 'Nepotism' Allegations

BJP leader Raman Singh alleged that the top 18 candidates selected for higher posts in CGPSC-2021 exam have familial connections to Congress leaders, a former chairman of the body, and senior officials.

Former Chhattisgarh chief minister and senior BJP leader Raman Singh has penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities and nepotism surrounding the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC). Singh's letter highlights concerns over the selection and evaluation processes employed by the state recruitment body, CGPSC. In his communication to the Prime Minister, Singh voiced the mounting anger and disappointment among young aspirants due to what he termed "nepotism" in the candidate selection process, marking a troubling departure from the PSC's historical integrity.

Every year, approximately 1.5 lakh aspirants, predominantly hailing from middle-class backgrounds, vie for positions within the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) through a rigorous examination.

In his letter, Singh alleged that the top 18 candidates selected for higher posts in the CGPSC-2021 exam have familial connections to Congress leaders, a former chairman of the recruitment body, and senior officials.

The gravity of the allegations prompted the Chhattisgarh High Court to intervene. Last month, the court ordered a probe into the allegations of corruption and nepotism in the recruitment process following a petition filed by senior BJP MLA and former cabinet minister, Nankiram Kanwar, he highlighted.

Additionally, the former chief minister pointed out irregularities in the evaluation and interview process for the State Service Examination 2022 conducted by CGPSC. These irregularities, as per his claims, warrant a thorough investigation to safeguard the future of talented young individuals in Chhattisgarh.

Speaking on his decision to write to the Prime Minister regarding the CBI probe, Raman Singh stated, "The reason for writing a letter to the PM is to determine the level of investigation required. If there's a significant issue in Chhattisgarh, it concerns the future of our youth. The investigation should be conducted by those who are untainted by corruption."

"The Chief Minister has not displayed sufficient seriousness towards this issue. However, now that PM Modi has mentioned Chhattisgarh PSC in two meetings, it underscores the gravity of the situation," he remarked, as quoted by news agency ANI.

The allegations surrounding the CGPSC have sparked a significant public outcry, raising questions about transparency and integrity in the state's recruitment processes. The response from the Prime Minister's office is awaited, as the call for a CBI investigation gains momentum.
