Alliance University Launches Two-Year Master Programme In Performing Arts

Alliance University has launched a two-year Master of Performing Arts programme aimed at developing students' artistic talents alongside essential managerial skills.

Alliance University has launched a two-year Master of Performing Arts programme designed to equip students with both artistic and managerial expertise. With a thoughtfully structured curriculum, this programme enriches the landscape of performing arts education in India by covering Indian philosophy, culture, traditions, and values—ensuring holistic development. Students can choose electives in classical dance forms, including Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, and Carnatic Vocal.

The curriculum not only cultivates students’ artistic skills but also introduces the business side of arts management, including industry-relevant legal frameworks. It further strengthens media and communication abilities, enabling students to create promotional materials, master public speaking, and navigate digital media. A unique wellness focus promotes stress management and holistic well-being.

Eligible applicants must hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent and have at least eight years of professional dance experience or relevant certification. Dr. Sruthy Chandrasekhar, Head of the Alliance School of Performing, Visual and Creative Arts, emphasized that many artists struggle with the business aspects of the industry, and this programme aims to bridge that gap, particularly benefiting women dancers by enhancing career opportunities and providing sustainable income options. Collaborations with international universities and global dance programmes broaden students’ exposure, ensuring that the curriculum aligns with global standards.

Alongside the master’s programme, Alliance University offers a one-year Diploma in Performing Arts, initiated in 2012, making it the first private institution in South India to provide this qualification. With only 60 seats available, admissions for the Master’s programme are open, while the diploma course currently enrolls 44 students.

The master’s programme partners with celebrated cultural festivals such as the Surya, Nishagandhi, Konark, and Khajuraho Dance Festivals, offering students networking and performance exposure. Foundational training in lighting, makeup, and stage production empowers students to become versatile, self-reliant artists, with career paths including roles like researcher, art manager, entrepreneur, technician, designer, choreographer, composer, critic, and arts manager.
