Visibility In Delhi Remains Low As Thick Layer Of Fog Engulfs National Capital

Visibility reduces as a thick layer of fog grips Delhi. Along with Delhi, dense fog also affected visibility in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi.

New Delhi: Low visibility was recorded in Delhi on Wednesday morning as a thick layer of fog gripped the national capital. Along with Delhi, dense fog also affected visibility in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi. People were seen resorting to bonfire as temperature dropped.

Earlier on Tuesday, as the temparature dropped in north India, dense fog covers were seen in Delhi in the morning. Indian Meteorological Department said that dense to very dense fog conditions over Punjab,  Haryana Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh to continue for the next two to three hours and improve gradually, news agency ANI reported on Tuesday.

Due to the fog, the Delhi Airport on Tuesday, tweeted a fog alert at 4.30 am and cautioned passengers about low visibility procedures being implemented. "Low Visibility Procedures are in progress at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are presently normal. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information," the tweet read.

IMD released a list of states with lowest visibility (in meters) reported at 5:30 am on Tuesday. Visibility in Bathinda was 00 . The visibility in Amritsar, Ganganagar, Patiala, Delhi (Palam) and Lucknow was 25. As far as Delhi (SFD) and Purnea is concerned visibility stood at 50. The visibility in Ambala and Agra is 200. The visibility in Gorakhpur was 300. Visibility in Bareilly, Patna, Gaya and Kolkata stood at 500. 11 trains running late in the Northern Railway region due to fog.
