Sanjay Singh Arrest: Delhi Court Sends AAP MP To ED Remand For 5 Days In Liquor Policy Case
A Delhi court sent AAP MP Sanjay Singh, who was arrested on Wednesday in the excise policy case, to ED remand for five days.
Delhi's Rouse Avenue court on Thursday sent AAP MP Sanjay Singh to ED remand till October 10 in the Delhi liquor policy case. The ED had sought 10 days' custody of Sanjay Singh. Judge MK Nagpal heard the matter.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the Delhi Excise Policy case after a nine-hour search. The central agency conducted a raid on his premises on Wednesday and the party maintained that the action was taken because of Singh's questions on the Adani issue. The party has also challenged the Centre to publish any evidence against its leader.
Seeking 10 days remand for AAP MP Sanjay Singh, the ED said that it has to confront Singh with digital evidence. "We have to extract digital data, further, he needs to be interrogated with other persons... A total of 239 places were searched. Yesterday, a search happened at his home. The employee of Dinesh Arora deposited Rs 2 crore cash at Sanjay Singh's residence. He also says Rs 1 crore, he picked from Indospirits," Special Public Prosecutor Naveen Kumar Matta appearing for the ED submitted.
Advocate Mohit Mathur, appearing for Sanjay Singh, argued: "These are those interesting cases which will go on and investigation will never end. Dinesh Arora sings like a lark the way they him to. His credibility is so incredible. He was accused in both cases and turned witnesses in both cases." "Ten days is an absurd position for someone who is not involved in the matter at all," he added.
During the hearing Sanjay Singh told the court: "Main to bas itna hi kehna chahta hu ki mere liye koi alag lanoon nahi ho sakta. Mujhe ek bhi baar summon nahi kiya gaya. Aap nyay ki kursi par hain sir [I just want to say that there can't be a separate law for me. I was not summoned even once. You are in the seat of justice, sir]."
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal has raised significant doubts regarding the ongoing raids related to the liquor scam, following the arrest. He said, "Over a thousand raids have been conducted in connection with the liquor scam, don't know how many people have been arrested. They say that it was a scam of Rs 100 crore, however, even after so many raids they have failed to find even a penny".
Kejriwal alleged, "They (ED officials) searched his entire house but nothing was found, and he was arrested in the evening. Elections are coming, and after the formation of the INDIA alliance, PM Modi is desperate... They will arrest many people till 2024. Sanjay Singh is a lion...We will file a case in court..."
This was the second high-profile arrest in the case after ED and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) nabbed former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in relation to the case.
