Mob Attacks Delhi Policemen After 3 Nigerians Detained For Overstaying Visa: Report

According the police, a Narcotics cell team, comprising top officers, went to Raju Park in Neb Sarai for deportation procedures for overstaying foreign nationals.

A large mob of 100 African nationals encircled and battled with a police squad in the Neb Sarai neighbourhood of South Delhi after the cops captured three Nigerians. The Nigerians, whose visas had expired, were being transported to the police station when a mob formed and blocked their path. They were successful in releasing Nigerian citizens who had been held by the anti-drug squad due to visa expiration, India Today reported.

According the police, a Narcotics cell team, comprising top officers, went to Raju Park in Neb Sarai for deportation procedures for overstaying foreign nationals. The squad nabbed three African nationals whose visas had expired about 2:30pm.

"At the same time, a mob of over 100 people of African origin surrounded them, and obstructed the police operation. Two of the three detained managed to successfully escape during the chaos, but the police managed to catch one of them, 22-year-old Philip, again," DCP (South) Chandan Chowdhary was quoted by India Today in its report.

At 6.30 p.m., a joint squad from the Neb Sarai Police Station and the Narcotics Squad seized four African nationals, including a lady. Around 150 to 200 African-Americans approached the police squad and attempted to help the inmates escape.

However, the police were able to contain the mob and transport them to the Neb Sarai Police Station.

According to police, their deportation processes are now underway.

Kene Chukwu David Williams, Igwe Emmanuel Chimezie, Aziegbe John, and Queen Godwin have been identified as the four nationals.
