CM Kejriwal Has Directed Authorities To Beautify Delhi Like It Was During G20, Says Minister Atishi

Delhi Minister Atishi said officials of various departments are on the ground to take stock of the work needed in areas that did not receive a facelift as part of the G20 beautification drive.

The Delhi government will extend its beautification efforts to all parts of the national capital after G20 designated parts of the city witnessed a facelift for the international summit. Delhi minister Atishi on Tuesday said officials of various departments are on the ground to take stock of the work needed in areas that did not receive a facelift as part of the G20 beautification drive. The Public Works Department (PWD) minister Atishi while talking to the news agency ANI on Tuesday said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has directed that the whole city should be beautified like it was at the time of G20. Regarding the fountains and statues that were installed for the beautification, she said that a maintenance agency would be hired to look after them.

She told ANI, "Delhi CM Kejriwal has directed that the whole city should be beautified like that at the time of G20... For the last 6-8 months, areas related to G20 were being worked upon, and the same beautification would be done all over Delhi... We will appoint a maintenance agency to look after the property of the PWD including fountains and statues."

Taking to PTI News, Atishi said, "We held a review meeting and debriefing with all the departments yesterday. Today, all the departments are on the ground and making efforts to achieve the goal."

The national capital received a makeover for the G20 summit which took place on September 9 and 10. A number of statues, Shivlings were installed on the roads of Delhi, and trees were also decorated. Hoardings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's face on it were also installed across the city. At least 3,000 trees and over 9 lakh saplings were planted across Delhi. New Delhi Municipal Committee (NDMC) beautified footpaths, markets, flyovers, and public places with potted plants.

Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj held a press conference on Monday during which he said that the Public Works Department (PWD), Urban Development (UD) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will work together to ensure that the beautification of Delhi will be carried out properly.

During the press conference, Bharadwaj said, "We want to congratulate the two crore people of Delhi for their cooperation in making the G20 Summit successful. It was with their money which was collected through taxes that we could beautify Delhi. For three days, the people of Delhi had confined themselves to their homes. On some days, they faced traffic jams as well. PWD, MCD, UD, and many other departments will work together to make Delhi beautiful in the future as well."
