Fresh Spell Of Rain Brings Respite From Scorching Heat In Delhi-NCR
Rain lashed parts of the national capital in the early hours of Wednesday, bringing respite from the scorching heat over the past few days.
Light to moderate rain lashed parts of Delhi-NCR early Wednesday morning, bringing a much-needed respite from the scorching heat in the region over the past few days. The Delhi-Noida link road witnessed waterlogging after the fresh downpour. A cloudy sky with light rain and thundershowers has been predicted for the rest of the day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Wednesday’s maximum temperature in the national capital might stand at 35 degrees Celsius whereas the minimum temperature might see a drop to 26 degrees Celsius. High humidity levels, however, may cause inconvenience to city residents.
On Monday, Delhi recorded a low of 28.4 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, while the maximum temperature settled at around 38.1 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal.
Notably, Delhi has recorded above-normal rainfall in the last four months and the cumulative precipitation this year so far has already equalled the yearly quota of 774 mm.
However, August has recorded a large deficit with the total rainfall this month being 52 per cent less than normal.
Apart from Delhi, excess rainfall has been wreaking havoc in other states as well such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, etc. Massive floods, rain-triggered landslides, incessant rain is something that these states have been battling for a long time now.

IMD has issued alerts of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, and Meghalaya. As per IMD, Uttarakhand is expected to witness heavy rain and thunderstorm accompanied by lightning over the next few days.
Earlier IMD issued a 'Red' alert in Uttarakhand for Wednesday and Thursday. The 'Red' alert was issued for seven districts for Wednesday - Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Dehradun. On Thursday, the same districts, except for Bageshwar, will be under a 'Red' alert.
