Delhi Water Crisis: Failing To Get PM Modi's Intervention, Atishi Begins Indefinite Fast
Delhi Water Crisis: Delhi's acute water shortage amid an unprecedented heatwave has sparked political disputes, prompting Water Minister Atishi to begin an indefinite fast.
The acute water shortage in Delhi at a time of an unprecedented heatwave has become a point of contention between political parties. Now, to protest the Haryana government's alleged reluctance to provide the national capital its required water quota, Delhi water minister Atishi has begun her indefinite fast.
Atishi has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention in resolving the water crisis in Delhi. In a letter she wrote to PM Modi on Thursday, saying that she had tried every possible means to procure water but any source would be directing water through Haryana and the Nayab Singh Saini government is refusing to cooperate.
She said Haryana has been releasing a deficit volume of water for the last 2 weeks, which has impacted 28 lakh Delhi residents. This translates to around 100 MGD of water. In a video shared on Thursday,

Atishi began her indefinite fast, what she called 'jal satyagraha', after visiting Rajghat.
She earlier posted on X: "Water shortage continues in Delhi. Even today 28 lakh Delhiites are not getting water. Despite every possible effort, the Haryana government is not providing full water to Delhi. Mahatma Gandhi has taught that if one has to fight against injustice, one must adopt the path of Satyagraha. I will start 'Water Satyagraha' from today. I will go to Raj Ghat at 11 am and pay tribute to Gandhiji. I will start an indefinite fast at Bhogal, Jangpura from 12 o'clock. I will remain on fast until the people of Delhi get their rightful share of water from Haryana."
