Delhi's Air Quality Remains In The 'Poor' Category, AQI Stands At 286

The Air Quality of Delhi is in the 'Poor' category with its Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 286 on Tuesday.

The Air Quality of Delhi is in the 'Poor' category with its Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 286 on Tuesday, ANI has reported. The state recorded its coldest morning of this season on Monday with the temperature dipping down to 9 degrees Celsius while the AQI was at 316 on Monday morning.

The government's monitoring agency, System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research said that the AQI was likely to remain within the lower end of 'Very Poor' or within the 'Poor' category for the next three days. It said, “For the next 3 days, upper-level winds are from [the] northwest direction that is likely to increase transport of pollutants from stubble burning region if fire counts increase. AQI is likely to be within ‘Poor’ or ‘lower end of very poor’ for the next 3 days due to [a] net effect of inflow of pollutants and local dispersion and ventilation.”

Commenting on the pollution situation in Delhi, the agency further said that the pollutants released from burning stubble contributed 57% of PM10 and 10% of PM2.5.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'Good', 51 and 100 'Satisfactory', 101 and 200 'Moderate', 201 and 300 'Poor', 301 and 400 'Very poor', and 401 and 500 'Severe'.
