Delhi Police On Alert Ahead Of AAP's Protest. BJP HQs, ITO & ED Office Security Tightened

Paramilitary personnel, equipped with anti-riot gear, have been stationed to maintain law and order.

Ahead of planned protest by AAP leaders and workers in the national capital on Sunday, the Delhi Police has increased security measures, officials said, news agency PTI reported. This comes after AAP decided to conduct a candle march and burn the effigy of the BJP government in protest against the arrest of party supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday.

"We got information that workers and leaders of AAP will hold protest. To ensure law and order situation, we have stepped up security in the national capital. We will ensure deployment of paramilitary forces along with Delhi Police personnel. Senior officers will continue to monitor the entire situation in their districts. Directions have been issued to the SHOs to keep a strict vigil in their area and to inform their senior officers immediately, if they get to know about any protest," a senior police officer was quoted by PTI in its report.

Heavy deployment of personnel and multi-layer barricading have been implemented on roads leading to the BJP headquarters, ITO, and in front of the ED office where AAP members are expected to gather for a protest against the arrest of Chief Minister Kejriwal.

Paramilitary personnel, equipped with anti-riot gear, have been stationed to maintain law and order.

Additionally, the traffic police have been instructed to ensure smooth traffic flow in Delhi and to arrange diversions promptly if AAP workers and leaders organize a protest march.

As part of the heightened security measures, roads leading to both the BJP headquarters and the ED office in central Delhi have been closed.

Earlier on Saturday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann expressed solidarity with Kejriwal, stating that if his Delhi counterpart is sent to jail, they will petition the court to establish his office in prison to continue running his government from there. Mann emphasized that no one can replace Kejriwal in the AAP, as he founded the party from the anti-corruption movement and is its senior founding member.
