Republic Day: Delhi Metro Asks Commuters To Plan For Delays As CISF Steps Up Security Measures

DMRC will increase the security checks for all passengers travelling in the Delhi Metro starting on January 19-27, amid the upcoming Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has said that the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will step up security checks for passengers across all metro stations in Delhi beginning January 19 until January 27 due to the Republic Day Celebration on January 26. It also advised passengers to plan their respective journeys, keeping in mind the possibility of encountering long queues because of the enhanced security arrangements.

The statement said, "In view of the enhanced security arrangement ahead of Republic Day on 26th January, the security checks for passengers will be further intensified by CISF across the Metro stations starting from tomorrow i.e., 19th January (Friday) till 27th January."

DMRC also requested the passengers "to cooperate with the security personnel during the security checks".

Delhi Police have also reinforced security arrangements across the capital ahead of the Ram Temple inauguration, followed by the Republic Day celebrations to be held in the region on January 26, as per the news agency PTI.

According to a police official, night patrol staffers have been ordered to thoroughly check guest houses, hotels, and dharamshalas, specifically around the areas adjacent to railway stations and inter-state bus terminals, to keep an eye on people visiting Delhi, reported PTI.

The official further added that more than 8,000 police personnel have also been deployed all over Delhi to ensure safety during the January 26 parade.

Airspace in Delhi will also witness restrictions for 11 days this month. Increased curbs will begin from January 19 to January 25, as well as on January 26 and 29, reported the news agency ANI.

The landing and take-off of non-scheduled flights of scheduled airlines will be restricted from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on January 19-25. As per the notice issued by the Airports Authority of India, there will be airspace restrictions from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on January 26-29. However, scheduled flights will not be affected.

India is set to celebrate its 75th Republic Day this year on January 26, 2024. Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has been invited to be the chief guest this year.
