Escape From Grueling Humidity: Delhi Likely To Receive Light Rain Says Met Department

The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light rain later in the day.

Delhi is likely to expect light rain on Tuesday, India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported. The minimum temperature is expected to settle at 29 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal. According to PTI, the relative humidity recorded at 8:30 AM stood at 76 per cent. The Safdarjung Observatory, which is the city's primary weather station, logged a minimum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius. The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light rain later in the day.

On Monday, Delhi recorded a low of 28.4 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal, while the maximum temperature settled at around 38.1 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal.

The IMD had informed that the city may record light rain over the next two days as well, but it won't have a significant impact on the temperatures.

In the last four months, Delhi has recorded above normal rainfall and the cumulative precipitation this year so far has already equaled the yearly quota of 774 mm. However, in August there has been a large deficit with the total rainfall, according to PTI, has been 85 per cent less than normal rainfall in the capital city.

On Sunday, heavy rain lashed Chandigarh and its surrounding areas, leading to the temperature dropping a few notches, the weather office said. The rain spell brought relief to people from the sultry conditions. Mohali in Punjab and Panchkula in Haryana – Chandigarh's adjoining towns – were also lashed by rain.

Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh, the death toll in rain-related incidents climbed to 78. Of the 78 deaths since Sunday night, 24 were in the three major landslides in Shimla alone – 17 at the Shiv temple in Summer Hill, five in Fagli, and two in Krishnanagar, Superintendent, Shimla, Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi told PTI on Saturday.

Since the onset of the monsoon in Himachal Pradesh on June 24, 338 people have died in rain-related incidents and road accidents in the state while 38 people are missing, according to the state emergency operation centre.
