Cool Morning In Delhi-NCR After Rain Lashes Some Parts, Mercury Likely To Rise In Coming Days

The national capital witnessed rain late on Monday night. The IMD has predicted that the temperature is likely to cross 40 degrees in the next five days.

In a relief to the residents of Delhi, the national capital witnessed rain late on Monday night making the weather pleasant and cool. However, in the coming days, the region is likely to witness severe heat conditions as IMD has predicted that the temperature may cross 40 degrees in the next five days. According to the IMD, the weather is expected to remain dry in some areas of Delhi-NCR, UP, and Rajasthan. On Tuesday, June 6, the weather is expected to remain dry in most of the states and there may be an increase in the temperature on Wednesday, June 7. 

Light-intensity rain/drizzle would occur over and adjoining areas of Kasganj, Ganjdundwara, Etah, and Mainpuri (U.P.) during the next 2 hours, RWFC New Delhi said.

Earlier, light rains were witnessed in some parts of the national capital on Sunday which recorded a maximum temperature of 33.7 degrees Celsius, six notches below the season's average, according to the India Meteorological Department. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature settled at 23.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average, the IMD said.

The city recorded 3 mm of rainfall between Saturday 8.30 am to Sunday 8.30 am. The relative humidity at 8.30 am was recorded at 86 per cent.

Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood in the moderate category with a reading of 173 at 6 pm, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe. According to the Air Quality Early Warning System, air quality in Delhi is likely to remain in the moderate category from June 4 to June 7.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday forecast light rainfall over the western Himalayan region which would be a break from the summer heat during the next four to five days. According to the weather department, due to a Western disturbance over Iran, light rainfall activity is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi NCR for the next two days.
