AAP Demands Modi's Clarification On BJP's '75 Age Retirement Rule', Quips 'Is He Greedy For PM Post'

AAP MP Sanjay Singh noted Arvind Kejriwal's recent assertion that Amit Shah would succeed Modi once he turned 75, prompting Singh to call for clarification from PM Modi himself.

New Delhi: AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday raised questions about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's adherence to the retirement rule he purportedly set within the BJP. He highlighted PM Modi's earlier statement that BJP leaders over the age of 75 would retire from electoral contests, saying, "Arvind Kejriwal raised a very legitimate question... PM Modi had said that whoever turns 75 in the BJP will not be allowed to contest elections and he will retire and under this formula, Lal Krishna Advani was not allowed to contest elections".

"Today when Arvind Kejriwal said that PM Modi will retire in 75 years after that Amit Shah will become the PM of the country, then who would fulfill Modi's guarantee?... I think Amit Shah's statement is not enough. PM Narendra Modi should come forward and say that the rules and principles he has made for other leaders of BJP are not applicable to him", reported ANI.

"BJP and Narendra Modi themselves had made a rule that a person in the party who turns 75 years old will retire. He will not contest elections. Under this rule, BJP sidelined many big leaders including Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Sumitra Mahajan. Tickets of many MPs were cancelled," he remarked.

"PM Modi should himself give the clarification on the age rule made by him. He should also clarify whether he is greedy for the post of PM," Singh said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader was responding to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue to lead the nation post the Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier in a presser at the AAP office, CM Kejriwal had claimed BJP's intentions to replace Modi due to his age. He referenced BJP's unofficial retirement rule for leaders aged 75, claiming Modi's impending retirement and Shah's elevation to PM.

He also accused the BJP of planning changes in state leadership, specifically targeting Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah rebuffed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's assertion that he would become Prime Minister after Narendra Modi, emphasising there's "no confusion in BJP" regarding leadership succession. More On It: Amit Shah Dismisses Delhi CM Kejriwal's Claim On PM Modi's 'Retirement', Says 'No Good News For INDI Alliance'
