AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj Compares BJP to British Raj: ‘Wants to Rule by Instilling Fear’

The AAP leader claimed that the BJP is "shocked" after witnessing the massive support that I.N.D.I.A bloc's mega rally recieved at Ramlila Maidan on March 31.

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday compared the BJP’s governance to British Raj, saying the party “wants to rule over us by instilling fear”.

“Today, the people of the country are scared and it is a matter of grave concern for the country,” he added, addressing a press conference. “People used to be scared during British rule. The British scared us with the threat of jail and ruled us. Today, the BJP government at the Centre has become almost like that."

The AAP leader claimed the BJP was “shocked” at the massive support received by I.N.D.I.A bloc’s mega rally at Ramlila Maidan on March 31. “All the senior leaders of our party are in jail. Atishi, Durgesh Pathak, Sandeep Pathak and I are the younger lot. We called up these leaders (I.N.D.I.A bloc leaders) and requested them to come, stating that our senior leaders are in jail and we are doing a ‘maha rally’ in Delhi. All the leaders said they would definitely be there," he stated.

He said the BJP “executed their plan and arrested all our big leaders but the party is still standing”. “BJP knows that the people won't be scared to cast their votes.”

On Tuesday, Delhi minister and AAP leader Atishi alleged the BJP had offered her party membership, saying she would otherwise face scrutiny from the Enforcement Directorate.

“BJP, through one of my close aides, approached me to join their party to save my political career. If I do not join the BJP, then in the coming one month, I will be arrested by ED,” she said.
