AAP MLAs Hit Out At Delhi L-G over IP College Incident; 4 BJP MLAs Marshalled Out Of House
BJP members wanted to have a discussion on another issue which led to an argument with the Speaker after which four BJP MLAs were marshalled out.
AAP MLAs in Delhi Assembly on Wednesday raised the issue of men harassing female students at DU's Indraprastha College for Women during a fest and blamed the Lieutenant Governor for the 'poor law and order situation' in the national capital.
BJP members wanted to have a discussion on another issue which led to an argument with the Speaker after which four BJP MLAs were marshalled out, reported news agency PTI.
AAP MLA Bhavna Gaur raised the matter of security, law, and order for women in the national capital with regard to the recent incident at DU's Indraprastha College for Women where some men scaled the walls of the college and harassed female students, reported PTI.
The BJP members, on the other hand, wanted the assembly to have a discussion on the issue of corruption, including the now-repealed excise policy. However, Speaker Ram Niwas Goel did not allow it, saying it had already been discussed.
Speaker Goel said, "We should be ashamed that men trespassed into women's college and misbehaved with the students. This is a serious issue. Does women's security not matter to you? The college is close to the Vidhan Sabha, the chief minister's residence, and right under the nose of the Raj Niwas."
Goel requested the BJP MLAs to leave the House if they did not wish to take part in the discussion on the issue of women's security and law and order in the national capital. When the BJP MLAs did not relent, the Speaker ordered that four of them- Jitendra Mahajan, Ajay Mahawar, O P Sharma and Mohan Singh Bisht- be marshalled out.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has registered an FIR in this matter under sections 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 188 (disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and detained seven people.
Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal took to Twitter and said, "Recent news of harassment with girls at a Fest organised by IP college is v shocking. Such incidents have occurred in the past as well. Issuing notice to Delhi Police. Such hooligans should be behind bars!"
