‘Arvind Kejriwal Being Humiliated’: AAP Claims Delhi CM Denied In-Person Meetings In Tihar Jail

The AAP alleges unfair treatment of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar Jail, denying him in-person family meetings. Sanjay Singh claims this is politically motivated by the BJP-led Modi government.

Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh claimed on Saturday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was being denied in-person meetings with his family while in Tihar jail. Addressing a press conference, Singh claimed, "There is an attempt to break the morale of CM Kejriwal." He further lamented, "His family has not been allowed in-person meetings with him. They are only allowed to meet him through the jangla. This is inhuman. Even hardcore criminals are allowed in-person meetings", as quoted by news agency PTI.

The term 'jangla' refers to an iron mesh used to separate inmates from visitors during meetings. Singh highlighted the disparity, stating, "In the same Tihar jail, many meetings take place… but Arvind Kejriwal, a three-time elected chief minister, is being humiliated and made to meet his family through the jangla." "Hundreds of meetings have been conducted in this Tihar Jail while sitting in the office," he added.

He further alleged that such treatment was orchestrated by the BJP-led Central government. "This is happening at the behest of the BJP-led Central government. His rights as an inmate are being snatched," he declared. Sanjay Singh himself was recently granted bail by the Supreme Court in the Delhi excise policy case.

However, there was no immediate reaction from the Tihar administration regarding the AAP's claims.

AAP Slams Authorities For Delhi CM Kejriwal’s Scheduled Meeting With Punjab’s Bhagwant Mann In 'Mulakat Jangla'

Kejriwal, who is currently in judicial custody until April 15 in connection with a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam, has faced restrictions on meeting his family. On Friday, jail authorities scheduled Kejriwal’s meeting with his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann for April 15, stipulating that it would take place in the 'mulakat jangla'.

The AAP also questioned this move saying, "Jail administration and Prime Minister should name one person in a case you have arranged a meeting of a Chief Minister with another Chief Minister through the jangla... I am an MP from Delhi and I am not allowed to meet the Delhi CM in jail. What kind of drama have you created?"

He claimed the biggest of criminals are allowed to meet their visitors properly in in-person, terming the authorities' move as an "insult" to Chief Ministers Kejriwal and Mann.

Earlier in the week, the chief minister had met his wife Sunita Kejriwal, and personal secretary Bibhav Kumar inside Tihar Jail.
