The deceased were identified as Liladhar Dhakhole, 55 and his wife Aruna, 50. Liladhar worked as a technician at a power plant and social worker while his wife was a teacher.
An engineering student allegedly killed his parents apparently due to differences with them over his education and career in Nagpur, Maharashtra. There bodies were found days later.
The 25-year-old, Utkarsh Dhakhole, allegedly committed the double homicide at their residence in the Kapil Nagar area of the city on December 26. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning after neighbours complained of a foul smell.
The deceased were identified as Liladhar Dhakhole, 55 and his wife Aruna, 50. Liladhar worked as a technician at a power plant and social worker while his wife was a teacher.
As per the report, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Zone V) Niketan Kadam said, that after the police recovered the decomposed bodies of the couple, Utkarsh was arrested and he confessed to killing them.
Kadam said that Utkarsh allegedly strangled his mother at noon on December 26 and later stabbed his father to death around 5 pm. He left their bodies there. Following this murder, he took his sister, who attended college to their uncle’s residence. She was unaware of the murder. He told his relative that his parents had gone to Bengaluru for a meditation programme for a few days. Both the siblings were staying at their uncle’s place.
The motive appears to be a dispute over Utkarsh's struggling academic record and career, he added. According to the DCP, Utkarsh failed several subjects during his engineering course. Seeing this, his parents asked him to quit and choose something else. However, he was against this suggestion. They would taunt him that he should become a farmer and leave the house whenever he failed different subjects.
According to The Times Of India (TOI), Utkarsh had his father’s phone to ensure his sister wouldn’t grow suspicious. On December 27, he sent a message from his father’s mobile informing that they would return by January 5. Police have charged him with murder and are further collecting evidence to build a strong case.
