Bengal CM Mamata Blames 'Outsiders' For Murshidabad Violence, Plans Visit To Troubled Areas In May

Mamata Banerjee further stated that her government would soon reveal the identities of those behind the unrest, vowing to expose the “conspirators” responsible for sparking the clashes.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed on Tuesday that the recent violence erupted in parts of Murshidabad district related to the Waqf Act was instigated by “outsiders”. She announced plans to visit the affected areas in the first week of May to assess the situation.

Banerjee further stated that her government would soon reveal the identities of those behind the unrest, vowing to expose the “conspirators” responsible for sparking the clashes in two wards of the district.

"The violence was unfortunate. We do not want riots. Some outsiders orchestrated it, but we will expose them and their conspiracy," she said at an administrative programme in Midnapore, news agency PTI reported.

CM Mamata Promises Compensation Of Rs 10 Lakh To Families Of Those Killed

"I have promised the families of those killed in the violence to give a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each. We will also rebuild their houses under the 'Banglar Bari' scheme... I will be going there in the first week of May and evaluate the situation,” Banerjee said.

Meanwhile, the CM also assured that the state government will take responsibility for the children's education of those killed in the violence. "We are surveying the damages faced by the shopkeepers there," she said.

On April 19, Governor C V Ananda Bose met with the family of a man and his son who lost their lives during the violence linked to protests against the anti-Waqf (Amendment) Act in Murshidabad district. He assured the grieving family of all necessary support.

Politics has also erupted over the violence, with opposition parties launching scathing attacks on the ruling Trinamool Congress with promising action if voted to power.

So far, at least three people have died and more than 280 individuals have been arrested in connection with the unrest that occurred earlier this month.
