A dentist practicing in Shalimar Garden has been arrested after a patient accused him of "severe negligence" during a tooth extraction. The arrest followed an order from the health department directing police action.

According to the complaint filed by Shilpi Pandey, she had visited the clinic of Dr. Ujjwal Karawal on February 21 for a wisdom tooth extraction. She alleged that the dentist administered anesthesia three times before carrying out the procedure.

"When I regained consciousness and spat, I noticed pieces of flesh from my gums, throat, and tongue," Pandey stated in her complaint.

She further alleged that the blade injuries she suffered during the procedure left her unable to speak for several days. She subsequently sought treatment from another medical professional in Delhi.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Hindan) Nimish Patil said that when Pandey confronted the dentist, he returned the ₹1,500 consultation fee but allegedly threatened her with serious consequences if she pursued legal action.

"He also reportedly forced her to leave his clinic," the DCP added.

Acting on the health department’s directive, police registered an FIR on Monday and arrested Dr. Karawal on Tuesday.
