UP: 10 Killed, 4 Injured As DCM Rams Autorickshaw In Hardoi, PM Announces Rs 2 Lakh Ex-Gratia

Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadaun said the accident took place on the Bilgram-Madhavganj road near Roshanpur village when a truck crashed into an auto in a bid to avoid hitting a motorcycle.

Hardoi Accident: At least ten people including six women, three children, and one man died and four others were injured on Wednesday when a truck crashed into an auto in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of the kin of each deceased from PMNRF. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadaun said the accident took place on the Bilgram-Madhavganj road near Roshanpur village when the truck crashed into the auto in a bid to avoid hitting a motorcycle. He said that the local police were informed about the accident at around 12:30 PM.

"10 people including 6 women died in a collision between an auto and a truck. 4 people got injured. They are out of danger, but they are being sent to the district hospital for better treatment," SP Jadaun said earlier today after the mishap.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Madhuri (25), Sunita (28), Neelam (30), Anshi (8), Satyam Kushwaha (18), Radha (21), Nirmala (40), Vimlesh (20), Pranshu (1), Roshni (36), and Vanshika 2, news agency PTI reported.

Police said that there were 15 passengers in the auto, which was badly damaged in the crash. "The families of those killed have been contacted. The police have impounded the DCM (truck) involved in the accident," Jadaun said.

The SP said that the exact cause of the crash is yet to be ascertained. "Locals told me that the DCM crashed into the auto in an attempt to avoid collision with a motorcycle. We are investigating the matter,' he said.

On being asked why the auto was carrying so many passengers, the officer said the police are searching for its driver who ran away from the spot after the accident. "The auto is in our custody but its driver is yet to be identified. Appropriate legal action will be taken against the auto driver after the probe," he added.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Brajesh Pathak Offer Condolences

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the accident and asked the district officials to ensure the injured get proper treatment. Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak also condoled the loss of lives in the crash, and called the incident "extremely sad and painful".

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also offered condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for peace of the departed souls, a statement issued by the party noted.

The Congress' Uttar Pradesh unit extended condolences to the bereaved families in a post on X, saying, "The government is requested to arrange for immediate free treatment for the injured and adequate compensation for the deceased."
