The city is gearing up to host Toma Terra—India’s first homegrown tomato-throwing festival—on May 11 at Experium Eco Park. Inspired by the legendary Spanish celebration held annually in Buñol, this event promises a riot of fun, minus the need for a passport or visa.

Tomato Waste To Be Converted Into Organic Manure
Organisers have also taken environmental responsibility seriously. All tomato waste generated will be processed into organic manure, to be used to enrich the very land where the revelry unfolds, reported Telangana Today. This move appears aimed at pre-empting criticisms similar to those faced by a proposed Tomatina-style event in India back in 2013, which was shelved after facing backlash for food wastage.
The cultural phenomenon of La Tomatina gained traction in India after its feature in the 2011 hit film 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara'. Post the movie, the festival has sparked curiosity and a desire among Indian youth for immersive, offbeat experiences.
Now, with Toma Terra, Hyderabad is bringing that fantasy to life—delivering messy fun with a sustainable message.
