Lucknow Woman Discovers Surgical Scissors In Stomach 17 Years After C-Section
A woman in Lucknow discovered surgical scissors left in her abdomen for 17 years after a C-section in 2008. Complaint filed for gross negligence.

A woman finds out 17 years after a woman underwent a caesarean section, or C-section, that a pair of surgical scissors was left behind in her stomach, in alleged medical negligence in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
The patient, Sandhya Pande, gave birth to a child via C-section at 'She Medical Care' nursing home on February 28, 2008. According to India Today, in a police complaint filed by her husband, Arvind Kumar Pandey, she had suffered from persistent abdominal pain since the surgery. But even after multiple consultations with various doctors, her condition showed no signs of improvement.
They made a shocking discovery when Sandhya Pandey underwent an X-ray at Lucknow Medical College in another medical evaluation, which uncovered a pair of scissors lodged in her abdomen.
On March 26, Sandhya Pandey was admitted to King George's Medical University (KGMU), where she had surgery to have the scissors removed.

'Successfully Removed'
As per the India Today report, KGMU spokesperson Sudhir Singh confirmed the incident, stating that the scissors were successfully removed after a complex surgical procedure. He added that the patient has since been discharged and is now recovering at home.
In his complaint, Arvind Kumar Pandey accused Dr. Pushpa Jaiswal, who conducted the C-section, of gross negligence.
He also called for a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure accountability.
In a similar incident, last year, a woman was shocked to find a pair of surgical scissors inside her abdomen during an appendectomy. The 45-year-old woman from Sikkim, who underwent surgery to remove her appendix in 2012 to alleviate persistent pain, continued to suffer for over a decade.
The woman's husband said she had undergone the procedure at the Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial (STNM) Hospital in Gangtok in 2012 and continued to have bouts of pain in her abdomen. She consulted many doctors, who gave her medication, but the pain would inevitably return.
She went to the STNM hospital again and an X-ray revealed the surgical scissors in her abdomen.
A team of medical experts promptly performed surgery to remove the scissors, and the woman is reported to be stable and recovering well following the procedure.
