Saif Ali Khan Attack: Mumbai Police Suspect More Than 1 Person Involved In Case As Probe Progresses

Mumbai police suspect the involvement of more than one person in the stabbing of actor Saif Ali Khan. This comes after blood samples and clothing were collected for forensic examination.

Mumbai police are investigating the possibility of multiple individuals being involved in the stabbing incident involving actor Saif Ali Khan. The attack, which occurred at the actor's residence in Bandra on January 16, led to the arrest of a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, also known as Vijay Das.

The police had cited the suspicion of multiple perpetrators as a key reason for seeking the accused's custody during the remand application, though they have not provided further details on this angle, news agency PTI reported. The police have collected and sent blood samples, as well as the clothes of Saif Ali Khan and his staff present at the time of the attack, to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.

Accused Demanded Rs 1 Crore, Attacked Nanny: Saif Ali Khan Told Mumbai Police

Shariful was arrested on January 19 in neighbouring Thane, and his police custody was extended till January 29 by a court on Friday. As per PTI, the official noted that Shariful has not been cooperating with the investigation, particularly regarding the source of the weapon used in the stabbing.

In an update on Friday, Saif Ali Khan provided his statement to the Mumbai Police, revealing that the accused had demanded Rs 1 crore and attacked the nanny. When Saif Ali Khan attempted to intervene, Shariful allegedly stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene. The actor was subsequently rushed to Lilavati Hospital for emergency surgery following the attack.

Additionally, the police confirmed that blood samples and clothes from both the actor and the accused were sent to the FSL to confirm whether the blood on the accused's clothes belonged to Saif Ali Khan. Fingerprints collected from Saif Ali Khan's apartment also matched those of the accused, further linking Shariful to the crime.
