'Many Involved In RG Kar Rape & Murder Case': Mother Of Accused Sanjay Roy Makes Explosive Claim

RG Kar Latest News: The mother of the accused in the RG Kar doctor rape-murder case Sanjay Roy has claimed that multiple people are involved in the crime and her son has been framed.

RG Kar Doctor Rape-Murder Case: At a time the whole country is erupting in protests over the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata, the mother of the accused in the case has made a stunning claim. According to her, "There is not one just man involved in this incident. Many people are involved." She also said that her son, Sanjay Roy, had been framed and that the actual accused would be punished too, reported news website NDTV.

The August 9 rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital shook the entire nation. Following the crime, doctors and the public in general staged protests in several states. The case was first investigated by the Kolkata Police, who arrested Sanjay Roy based on CCTV footage and circumstantial evidence at the scene of the crime. Two days later, the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, had considerable influence and even drove a bike with a Kolkata Police sticker on it. Sanjay Roy's mother's claim of the involvement of multiple people in the crime is likely to intensify the demand for investigations into the roles of more people. The accused's mother, however, said that her son is innocent.

The Supreme Court, meanwhile, pulled up the Kolkata Police for a delay in registering a case of unnatural death at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital as extremely disturbing. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud is hearing the case in the Supreme Court.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said, "From receiving information about the case to writing the report, the police showed laxity in everything. Even the crime scene was not secured."

The mother of the accused also said that her son had married only once and not four times as is being claimed by many.

Sanjay Roy's elder sister, who lives in the same locality, however, said that Sanjay married twice. She said that she came to know about the rape and murder through TV. The accused's sister said that if he did something wrong, he should be punished, the NDTV report stated.

Sanjay Roy Sent To Judicial Custody

Sanjay Roy was sent to 14 days in judicial custody by a Sealdah Court on Friday, August 23. Earlier on August 22, the CBI team got permission to conduct his polygraph test as well as those of Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and four other doctors.

The CBI team has so far questioned 73 people in the rape-murder case of the trainee doctor. The CBI suspects that the statements of Sanjay Roy and Sandip Ghosh have inconsistencies. According to a report by news website TOI, Sanjay Roy broke down in court on Friday as he agreed to be subjected to a polygraph test. He said that he had no problem in undergoing the test as he was innocent.
