'I Am Dr Sandip Ghosh But I Am Not...': A Kolkata Doctor Under Social Media Attack Amid RG Kar Protests

The name 'Sandip Ghosh' has had the nation on the boil since the news of the RG Kar Medical College doctor's rape and murder broke. Now, a Kolkata doctor is bearing the brunt of mistaken identity.

What's In A Name? Shakespeare's philosophy that a rose would smell "just as sweet" if called anything else, doesn't hold good anymore. A Kolkata doctor learned this the hard way when he found himself on the receiving end of netizens' ire who mistook him for Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The death of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last week created an uproar across the country. While people demanded punishment for the accused Sanjay Roy, they also sought punishment for others involved in the crime. Widespread protests broke out across the nation to demand justice for the victim.

Amid this, Dr Sandip Ghosh, who was the principal of RG Kar MCH at the time, faced massive public ire after he blamed the victim. However, later he quit his post and said: "The girl who died was like my daughter... as a parent, I am resigning."

Soon after the former RG Kar principal grabbed headlines, hate started pouring in for another medical practitioner named Dr Sandip Ghosh. This person is, however, a dental surgeon in Kolkata. The RG Kar principal is an orthopaedic surgeon.

Facing the hate, dentist Sandip Ghosh was forced to put out a Facebook post to explain that he had been a victim of mistaken identity. "People have been passing hate comments instead of checking my Facebook profile properly to verify my name and school. Yes, I am also Dr Sandip Ghosh... But I am a dental surgeon," he clarified in a Facebook post in Bengali. He said he earned his MDS from Ahmed Dental College & Hospital.

"Sandip Ghosh, the principal of RG Kar, and I are completely different people. I have never been affiliated with RGC Medical College," the dental surgeon said.

Commenting on his post, yet another 'Sandip Ghosh' said: "By luck or curse, I, too, am Sandip Ghosh. But I am not a doctor." One of his friends quipped: "Sandip we know you well … you are too young to be a principal at present."

Sandip Ghosh Questioned By CBI

Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar MCH, was questioned by the CBI on Friday. His former colleagues recently alleged that he was an "extremely corrupt" person who flexed his influence.

Sandip Ghosh's former neighbours also levelled allegations that he was a "wife-beater" who would regularly torture his spouse.
