Rajasthan: Heavy Fog Triggers Multi-Vehicle Collision On Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, 1 Dead, Several Injured

Rajasthan News: An accident on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway left one dead and several injured. Poor visibility due to fog caused a bus to lose control, triggering a chain of collisions involving 10 vehicles.

Rajasthan News: One person died, and several others were injured in a massive accident involving at least 10 vehicles on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Rajasthan's Alwar district on Sunday morning. The collision, caused by poor visibility due to heavy fog, involved cars, buses, and trucks, officials confirmed.

The accident occurred when a bus lost control in the dense fog, leading to a chain reaction of collisions, India Today reported. The chaos caused panic among drivers, many of whom abandoned their vehicles and fled to safety.

Subhash, a 26-year-old resident of Kotputli, succumbed to his injuries, while five others remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment, India Today's report cited police as informing.

Rescue teams from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) worked throughout the day to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow. Barricades were placed to manage the situation and warn drivers of the situation.

The expressway administration has put up display boards providing real-time weather updates and safety instructions. Vehicles are being equipped with reflectors and radium stickers to enhance visibility, while similar precautions are being applied to flyovers and electric poles. Authorities have also issued an advisory urging drivers to avoid speeding, maintain safe distances, use fog lights, and refrain from travelling during dense fog unless absolutely necessary.

This marks the third such accident on the expressway in the past two days, all attributed to heavy fog, the report stated.

NHAI Project Director PK Kaushik stressed the importance of driver caution. “Drivers should prioritise safety by avoiding halts in the middle of the road, overtaking, and excessive speeding. Always wear seatbelts, equip vehicles with radium stickers, and refrain from using mobile phones while driving,” Kaushik advised, as quoted by India Today.

He further added, “During foggy conditions, maintain a safe distance, use fog lights instead of high beams, and avoid unnecessary travel. Stay cautious and drive responsibly.”
