Clothes Torn, Arms Snatched — Another Bihar ASI Attacked During Holi Duty Days After ASI’s Murder

Police stated that along with other police constables, he was on his way for special duty from Chhitnawan to Maner on the occasion of Holi on Friday when a few unidentified persons attacked them.

In a surprising turn of events during Holi celebrations, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Vivek Kumar Yadav and other police constables were attacked by miscreants amid their special duty in the Patna district of Bihar. As per the FIR filed by Yadav, the incident took place near Khaspur village while the police team was travelling from Chhitnawan to Maner.

This incident followed after the murder of Munger ASI Santosh Kumar Singh, who was killed on March 14 during his effort to solve a dispute between two parties in Nandlalpur village. Out of seven individuals identified as accused in Singh's murder, five have been put in police custody.

According to news agency ANI, ASI Vivek Yadav stated that along with other police constables, he was on his way for special duty from Chhitnawan to Maner on the occasion of Holi on Friday when a few unidentified persons attacked them near Khaspur village in Patna. Amid the incident, they tore their clothes and put an effort to snatch their arms.

Meanwhile, Maner Police Station SHO Pradeep Kumar confirmed that intoxicated individuals have caused a disturbance. While some escaped the scene, but 2-3 were detained.

"A few people were intoxicated - a few of them ran away while 2-3 of them were detained, but they resisted. A few more people gathered there and tried to create a ruckus. They all were brought to the police station, and on the application of Vivek Kumar (ASI) - a case was registered against them for consuming alcohol and creating hindrance in the work of the police. Two people have been detained and sent to judicial custody," said Kumar.

Efforts Are Underway To Arrest Others Accused

Earlier today, Deputy Inspector General Rakesh Kumar also said that seven individuals have been identified as accused in the murder of Assistant Sub-Inspector Santosh Kumar Singh, with five already under police custody.

"ASI Santosh Kumar Singh went to pacify a dispute between two parties yesterday evening... He was attacked. He was brought to the hospital, and he lost his life in Patna during treatment... A total of seven people have been identified as accused and five of them have been accused... One of the accused, Guddu Yadav, was injured when police shot at him in self-defence," the DIG said.

He further added that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Imran Masood confirmed that the accused were identified as Guddu Yadav, Vikas Yadav, Ranveer Yadav and a woman from the same family. The main accused, Guddu Yadav, was injured when police shot at him in self-defense.

Responding about all those arrested, the SP told ANI, "The police vehicle met with an accident, injuring the police personnel. Taking advantage of the situation, one of the accused, Guddu Yadav, snatched a police personnel's rifle and aimed at the police team. The police fired in self-defence and shot him in the feet. He is the main accused in the murder case. Four people, including a woman, have been arrested so far."

Further, the Bihar Police initiated an investigation and efforts are underway to arrest the rest of the accused. Vijay Kumar Sinha, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister has labelled the murder of ASI Singh as "unfortunate" and has called for stringent action.
