In Odisha, a mob bound and beat three people for allegedly attempting religious conversion of tribal families. Police arrested two groups of people and are investigating.

Three people were tied to a tree and thrashed up by a mob in Odisha's Balasore district over the allegation that they were attempting religious conversion of some tribal families, police said on Saturday.

As per the information received from the police, the incident happened in Gobardhanpur village on Thursday and a video of the incident went viral on social media.

Subash Chandra Mallick, the officer-in-charge of the Remuna police station, said that after getting information about the incident, police immediately went to the spot and rescued two women and a man.

He added,"After a preliminary investigation, two cases were registered against two groups of people and an investigation is underway."

As per the police, all efforts are being made to maintain peace in the village and prevent any breach of the law and order situation.

The development comes just days after another case of an alleged religious conversion was reported from Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district. According to media reports, some youths were beaten in Rajghar in Dhar district for opposing religious conversion. As per local reports, an attempt was being made to convert them by beating them in which a youth was seriously injured. The police have taken action in this case, and registered a case against four people.

In UP’s Fatehpur also, a Dalit man’s head was shaved and he was paraded around a village by Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists. As per the reports, Bajrang Dal has accused the man of converting to Christianity and coercing others to do the same. The man was also forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ In a video of the alleged incident, which surfaced on social media, the man was shown being paraded around the village with a saffron scarf around his neck while the crowd accompanying him raised religious slogans.
