'Take A Bowl & Beg, Will Kill You': Nagaur Couple Dies By Suicide After Being Harassed By Children For Property

The elderly couple was allegedly thrashed by their sons and daughters-in-law, who wanted to grab their property. Their bodies were found in a water tank in their house.

An elederly couple allegedly died by suicide by jumping in the water tank of their home in Rajasthan's Nagaur district. A note left behind by the couple, which was found near the water tank, listed the alleged atrocities committed against them by their children as they wanted to grab their property.

The bodies of Hazari Ram Vishnoi (65) and his wife Chawali Devi (62), residents of Karni Colony, were found in the water tank of their house, Station House Officer, Kotwali police station, Manish Dev told news agency PTI on Thursday.

The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. While the autopsy of Vishnoi's body has been completed, that of his wife's body will be completed on Friday morning. SHO Dev said that the note, which was purportedly left behind by the deceased man, said that he was being harassed by his sons and relatives.

"Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide. Things will become clear after the post-mortem report comes and the investigation has been completed," the SHO said.

Children Cheated, Thrashed Parents For Properties

The couple had four children including two sons and two daughters. In the note, the couple alleged that they were thrashed by one of their sons Rajendra thrice, and the other son Sunil did so twice.

They also alleged that their daughters-in-law beat them up at least five times, and even threatened to kill them and stopped giving them food. The note said the mother was asked to "take a bowl and beg".

Their sons and daughters warned them against fiiling any complaint, failing which they threatened to kill them in their sleep. Besides their sons, the note names daughters-in-laws Roshni (Rajendra's wife), Anita (Sunil's wife), and the latter's son Pranav. The couple's daughters Sunita and Manju and some other relatives are also named, NDTV reported.

The couple stated in the letter that their own children wanted all the property and that the relatives had encouraged them to do so by any means possible. It also said that the children had already gotten the ownership of three plots and a car by cheating their parents and fighting with them. The sale of the car was trsansferred in the names of Manju, Sunita and, Rajendra, while a house was transfered in the name of Sunil and his wife Anita.

'Take A Bowl And Beg'

After allegedly snatching away their properties, the children refused to give their parents food and would abuse them over phone almost everyday. The couple said that their son Sunil had called them and asked them to "Take a bowl, beg for food. I will not give you food. If you tell anyone, I will kill you."

Nagaur Superintendent of Police Narayan Togas stated that they received information about the incident on Thursday. The complainant said that there was no movement in the couple's house. When the compound was searched, their bodies was found in the water tank.

"The key of the house was found in Hazariram's pocket and a forensic team has collected evidence. We are trying to find the video recording of a CCTV camera inside the house and the bodies have been sent for a post-mortem. A suicide note has been recovered," Togas told NDTV.

Meanwhile, Sunil, on Monday, had submitted a memorandum to Naugaur SP saying his parents had talked about implicating them in a suicide case. Investigation into the incident is underway as the police officials are probing all angles.
