12-Hour Water Cut Near Mumbai On May 21: What You Need To Know Before the Taps Run Dry

Thane Water Cut: Low water pressure can be expected for one to two days as the system stabilises.

Mumbai News: Residents in Thane, near Mumbai, should brace for a significant water disruption as the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has planned to undertake essential pre-monsoon maintenance work on Wednesday, 21 May.

The scheduled operations will involve vital servicing tasks at the Pise Udanchan Kendra high-pressure substation and the Temghar Water Purification Centre, crucial to the city’s independent water supply network.

From 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, the water supply will be completely shut down across several areas for a total of 12 hours. This interruption is necessary to carry out maintenance such as control panel repairs, transformer oil filtration, and other infrastructure enhancements to ensure smooth functioning during the monsoon season.

Areas To Be Affected

According to the official announcement, the areas that will face a total water shutdown include Ghodbunder Road, Vartak Nagar, Ritu Park, Jail, Gandhi Nagar, Rustomji, Siddhanchal, Samata Nagar, Internity, Johnson, and parts of Kalwa. These neighbourhoods will not receive water at all during the 12-hour window.

This comprehensive maintenance effort is part of the corporation’s initiative to strengthen the system’s reliability during heavy rains. Officials have emphasised the importance of completing these tasks ahead of monsoon challenges, which typically strain urban water networks due to flooding and power issues.

Low Pressure Likely To Follow

The TMC has issued an important advisory for all affected citizens. Once the water supply resumes after the shutdown period, low water pressure can be expected for one to two days as the system stabilises. The corporation is appealing to the public to plan ahead by storing sufficient water in advance and to use water judiciously during and after the interruption.

"During this water cut period, the Thane Municipal Corporation has appealed to cooperate by storing the required water and using it sparingly," the civic body said.

With timely preparation and conservation, residents can help ensure that the impact of the temporary disruption remains manageable.
