Mumbai BEST Bus Kills 25-Year-Old Biker Days After Deadly Crash In Kurla

The man suffered a head injury and was rushed to the hospital after his two-wheeler came in contact with the bus' tyre.

A man was killed after a state-run bus hit his motorcycle in Mumbai on Saturday night.

The accident occurred when a bus, hired by the civic-run Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) on a contract basis, hit 25-year-old, Dikshit Vinod Rajput

According to an NDTV report, the bus was travelling to the Kurla bus station from Shivaji Nagar. As per the report, when the bus was about to reach its location, the two-wheeler came in contact with the right-side rear tyre of the bus. The victim sustained a head injury and was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.

The authorities arrested 39-year-old driver, Vinod Aabaji Rankhambe, and the bus conductor, Avinash Vikramrao Gite.

This incident comes days after the incident which occurred on December 9 on the SG Barve Marg in Kurla (West). The accident claimed the lives of at least seven individuals and left 42 others injured after it crashed into over 30 vehicles.

There were allegations that the bus driver Sanjay Dutta More was drunk, his blood sample was sent for testing to check the presence of alcohol and was found negative, according to IANS. The police are primarily considering it an intentional incident, but why the driver did this has yet to be known. However, according to the BEST, the driver had lost control of the 12-metre-long electric bus which was locked at 80 kmph, though some other buses of the same manufacturer remain locked at 50 or 60 kmph as well.

As per PTI, both BEST and Olectra have submitted reports to the transport commissioner's office regarding the accident and they were forwarded to Mumbai police and the Maharashtra government. As per BEST, driver More had started operating automatic transmission buses (ones without a clutch) since December 1. Before that, he drove diesel-run mini Tempo Traveller buses of two other wet lease operators whose services BEST discontinued due to different reasons.

BEST administration has claimed that More had received three days' training before he was allowed to drive the electric bus.
