Mumbai Airport To Suspend Flight Operations For 6 Hours On This Day, Know Details To Avoid Inconvenience

Airlines and related agencies were notified six months in advance to minimise the impact on flight operations. The airport typically halts air traffic for runway maintenance post-monsoon.

Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai will be suspended for six hours on 17 October due to scheduled maintenance work. Both the main runway, RWY 09/27, and the secondary runway, RWY 14/32, will be out of service from 11:00 to 17:00 hours that day. As a result, flight schedules for arrivals and departures at Mumbai Airport will be adjusted.

According to a report by ANI, the main aim of this scheduled closure is to conduct necessary repairs and maintenance to ensure the airport's infrastructure complies with global standards.

This annual post-monsoon runway maintenance is a carefully planned operation that guarantees ongoing functionality and passenger safety, highlighting the commitment to a safety-first approach in airside operations.

Flight schedules have been arranged well ahead of time in cooperation with key stakeholders to facilitate smooth operations and effective implementation of post-monsoon maintenance.

Mumbai Airport Closed For Six Hours On May 9

Similarly, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) was closed for its pre-monsoon maintenance work on May 9, 2024, between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The main and secondary runways—09/27 and 14/32—were temporarily closed as part of the airport’s annual monsoon preparations to strengthen runway performance and ensure safety during adverse weather, according to ET.

To minimise passenger disruption, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued six months in advance, giving airlines sufficient time to adjust their schedules. CSMIA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining top air travel safety and security standards during this period.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), one of the busiest single-runway airports globally, ensures safe and efficient operations through meticulously planned maintenance throughout the year.
