MP: Families Being 'Ostracised' For Eating Prasad Offered By Dalit, Claims Man

A man from a Dalit community in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district has claimed that he and five other families are being ostracised in a village who ate prasad given by him last year. 

However, a senior police official said on Sunday that no such incident came to light after residents of the area were spoken to, reported PTI. 

On January 7, Jagat Ahirwar told police that he offered 'prasad' at a temple in August last year and had distributed it among villagers after which sarpanch Santosh Tiwari ostracised him and several families who ate the prasad.

Ahirwar alleged these families were not being invited to social events, marriages etc. 

Meanwhile, the police said they went to the village and spoke to villagers and found no such issue. "After a complaint was submitted, we spoke to villagers but we found no such issue. There is some dispute regarding elections in the village. We are recording statements in this regard," said Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Shashank Jain.

Tiwari claimed Ahirwar had lost in the sarpanch polls, which had resulted in animosity. 

On January 3, a Dalit woman and her daughter were brutally assaulted allegedly by two men who dragged the woman and her daughter on the road in Madhya Pradesh's Morena. The incident took place in full public view and involved a minor incident over a dog. 

The victim, Anit Mahor's son Deepal, told police that his younger brother Santosh was going to throw waste when he was startled by a dog, said Ambah police station in-charge Satendra Singh Kushwaha. Santosh threw the waste, which included dung, on the dog in fright and fled, which infuriated the accused, he added. 

"Anita Mahor has sustained serious injuries after being hit by sticks and then dragged on the road," Kushwaha said, adding her daughter Bharti also sustained injuries. 

The two accused Rajesh Tomar and Kumher Singh Tomar were arrested for assaulting them, the police official said.
