Man Who Assaulted Hospital Receptionist In Thane Arrested After Fleeing, Remanded To Police Custody

Thane man assaults hospital receptionist for not letting him skip queue; tries to flee after changing appearance.

Thane, Jul 23 (PTI) A man absconding after allegedly assaulting a female receptionist at a private hospital in Maharashtra’s Thane district was arrested and a court on Wednesday remanded him in police custody for two days, an official said.

After the alleged incident at Shree Bal Chikitsalaya in the Kalyan East area on Monday evening, accused Gokul Jha fled from the spot and changed appearance by shaving his beard and trimming his hair. Locals caught him on Tuesday and handed him over to the police, the official said.

Earlier, a viral video showed Jha kicking the 25-year-old receptionist and dragging her by her hair across the reception floor of the paediatrics hospital.

According to the police, Jha was angry as the receptionist didn’t allow him and a woman accompanying him with a baby to jump the queue and meet the doctor, who was busy with other patients.

Based on the receptionist’s complaint, the Manpada police registered an FIR against Jha under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for assault, using obscene language, and outraging the modesty of a woman.

While Jha was on the run, the police had detained his brother Ranjit as well as his relatives who were present in the hospital when the receptionist was allegedly assaulted, the official said.

On Wednesday, the Kalyan District and Sessions Court remanded Jha in police custody for two days, the official said.

The Manpada police will investigate Jha’s motive behind thrashing the receptionist and check if he was involved in any other crime, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Atul Zende from Kalyan.
