Maharashtra Weather Update: Heavy Rains Lash India’s Financial Hub; Orange Alert Issued For Mumbai, Thane
The IMD issued an orange alert for Mumbai, forecasting heavy rainfall. Mumbai received 142.6 mm of rain in 24 hours, with heavy showers expected to continue.

As heavy rain lashes Mumbai, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an orange alert for the financial hub of country and its suburbs on Thursday. The weather body has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall.
In the past 24 hours, Mumbai received 142.6 mm of rainfall, followed by Raigad district (134.1 mm), Palghar (120.9 mm), Thane (90.3 mm), and Mumbai suburban areas (60.5 mm).
Though the IMD forecast indicated intense rainfall was to diminish on Friday, the heavy showers are forecasted to persist on June 21 and June 22. Pune, in the meantime, is expected to experience significant rainfall on Thursday.
In the morning, Pune received heavy showers, disrupting daily routines. Lonavala witnessed a downpour as well, receiving 221 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Pune recorded 1,166 mm of rainfall this year so far, significantly higher than the 323 mm recorded by this date last year.
Weather Prediction For Other Regions
The weather body has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places, with extremely heavy falls having been recorded at isolated places over north Konkan, Gujarat Region, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Meghalaya. According to IMD, heavy showers have been recorded at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Saurashtra, Andaman Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
School Holiday Declared In Raigad
Amid the heavy rainfall warning, the schools and colleges in several parts of Raigad district—including Alibag, Roha, Tala, Mahad, and Poladpur—have been closed. The district administration has issued a directive after the Kundalika River near Roha reached warning levels due to Monday’s rains. Strong winds and further heavy showers are expected today.
