Ganpati Visarjan: At least 40 people, including women and children, were injured on Wednesday evening after the roof of a building collapsed during a Ganesh Visarjan procession in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district. Municipal Corporation has initiated a probe to ascertain if the building was illegal.

The incident occurred when a large crowd had gathered to see the visarjan procession at Ambedkar Chowk. A group of people was also standing on the roof of a building to watch the procession. A video of the incident has surfaced on social media.

In the video, women can be seen dancing in traditional costumes during the procession when suddenly the roof came tumbling down, unable to bear the weight of the people.

Since several ambulances were present at the spot due to the procession, the injured were rushed to a primary health centre immediately. Those who sustained serious injuries were admitted to a government hospital in Lakhandur. “The condition of the mildly injured is out of danger,” the report quoted a medical officer Chanrasuresh Dongarwar as saying.
