The incident occurred at around 4.15 pm at the Bholenath Chowk traffic junction in Kondhwa Budruk area after a 23-year-old man who was recklessly driving Toyota Innova knocked the 12-year-boy.
The deceased has been identified as Nivrutti Bajirai Kisve, whose family hails from the Latur district of Maharashtra, according to The Indian Express.
The report said that the SUV was being driven by Zaid Naseer Shaikh, who worked as a driver.
Meanwhile, Nivrutti Bajirai Kisve’s relative Pradeep Karle filed an FIR in the case at the Kondhwa police station.
The Pune police said they have booked Shaikh under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections pertaining to rash driving and causing death by negligence, along with provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act. They have also seized the vehicle after the accident.
"Shaikh was driving recklessly at high speed. Kisve sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The locals gathered at the accident location and handed over the driver to the police team that reached the spot. He was subsequently placed under arrest," Senior Inspector Vinay Patankar, in-charge of the Kondhwa police station, said.
The police further said that in order to determine whether Shaikh was driving under the influence of alcohol, a breathalyser test was conducted, which turned out negative.
The Police is meanwhile conducting the panchnama of the accident site and examining the CCTV footage to establish the exact scenario.
The incident comes a year after the infamous Pune Porsche crash, where on May 19, two techies who were returning home on their bikes from a hotel were fatally knocked by a speeding Porsche without a registration number plate in Kalyani Nagar.
