‘Prepared To Fall At Your Feet’: Cong MLA’s Emotional Plea Prompts MP Minister To Suspend Cop Over ‘Fake’ FIR

Congress leader Abhay Mishra said in the House that he and his son had been named in an FIR registered at Chorahata police station on December 16, 2022

A Madhya Pradesh minister and a Congress MLA turned emotional in the assembly on Friday after the latter raised concern about police harassment in an alleged fake FIR. Congress leader Abhay Mishra, MLA from Semariya in Rewa district, said in the House that he and his son had been named in an FIR registered at Chorahata police station on December 16, 2022, has several discrepancies in the case. With a choked voice, he demanded a strict against the responsible police officer.

In his plea, Mishra urged the government to take action against the police officials, saying he was prepared to fall at the minister's feet for justice and threatened unspecified drastic measures if his demands were not met.

'No Injustice Will Be Done': Minister Of State For Home Narendra Shivaji Patel

Minister of State for Home, Narendra Shivaji Patel, acknowledged that the matter involved a legislator's family and suggested it could be resolved through other means to uphold the dignity of elected representatives. However, Mishra remained firm, warning of drastic steps if justice was denied.

Moved by Mishra's plea, Patel assured that no injustice will be done and promised an inquiry once the concerned officer was transferred.

While speaking in the House, senior Congress leader Ajay Singh called it a case of police harassment. He further noted that about the recent Mauganj violence (in which a police officer and a man was killed in a mob attack), claiming that the incident would not have taken place if police would have taken action on time.

Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar also highlighted about tribal MLA Narayan Singh Patta , who was also facing a similar case. Singhar, along with his deputy Hemant Katare and colleagues Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, among others, strongly criticised the state government over issues concerning law enforcement and policing.

As the opposition's protest escalated, Minister Patel responded by announcing the suspension of the implicated police inspector and initiating action against the individual who had filed a false complaint. With this decision, order was restored in the House.

Later, in a phone conversation with PTI, Mishra remarked that Patel became emotional during the session, emphasising that every individual possesses compassion, a sense of justice, and the ability to forgive.

"He (Patel) might have recalled an FIR registered against his son over a trivial issue a few months back when he was minister," Mishra added.
