UP: BJP MLA Fired On In Lakhimpur Kheri For Stopping 2 From Drinking Liquor
BJP MLA Saurabh Singh Sonu was shot at in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri after confronting two individuals drinking alcohol.
A Bharatiya Janata Party MLA was fired upon in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri after he asked some people not to drink liquor. BJP MLA from Kasta assembly constituency in the district, Saurabh Singh Sonu was taking a stroll near his house with his wife on Wednesday when the incident took place.
While taking the stroll, he saw two people drinking alcohol and went towards them. He asked them not to drink liquor after which they started abusing and fired two shots.
The incident took place in the Shiv Colony locality under the Sadar Kotwali area. Hearing the gunshots, MLA's gunner rushed towards him but by the time, both the youths had fled.

The police reached the spot upon getting the information and launched a probe. Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident and are being questioned.
According to local media reports, the BJP MLA has dubbed the incident as a conspiracy to kill him. He claimed that he was targeted because people knew that he went out for a walk every evening. At the time of the incident, his gunner was at a short distance, due to which a major accident was averted.

Sonu said after touring the area, he returns home after having dinner and takes a walk with his wife every day.
He went out for a walk on the fateful day also when they saw the two men drinking alcohol. When the legislator interrupted, both started fighting and one of them pulled out a pistol.
As soon as information about the incident was received, the police reached the spot and started an investigation. Nearby CCTV footage is being scrutinised.
