Kunal Kamra Row: Shiv Sena Activists Protest Parody Song, Threaten to Blacken Comedian's Face In MP

Shiv Sena activists protest against comedian Kunal Kamra by posting his photo outside a toilet, threatening to blacken his face and parade him if he visits Madhya Pradesh.

Amid the ongoing row over comedian Kunal Kamra’s recent stand-up, the Shiv Sena youth wing activists put up a photograph outside the public toilet to protest against his parody song targeting party chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. According to news agency PTI, a Sena leader said that Kamra’s face will be blackened and he will be paraded on the streets if he visits Madhya Pradesh.

According to the report, the protest was held outside a public toilet in Bengali Square where the Sena activists shouted slogans against the 36-year-old comic who has stood his ground and refused to apologise following the controversy.

Anurag Sonar, president of the Madhya Pradesh unit of the Shiv Sena's youth wing Yuva Sena, told reporters, "Kamra serves filth to people in the name of comedy. To protest against his dirty mentality, we have put up his picture here.

"If he ever visited Madhya Pradesh, Shiv Sena workers will blacken his face and parade him on the streets," he added.

The 36-year-old comic, who has often courted controversy for his anti-establishment views, has been asked to appear before the Khar police in Mumbai in connection with a case filed against him for defamation, officials said on Tuesday.

Kamra doubled down on his stand by sharing an edited video of his stand-up act where he juxtaposed videos of Shiv Sainiks demolishing the venue in Mumbai where he recorded the show and burning his pictures and effigies with the parody song Hum honge kangal, hum honge kangal ek din... Mann me andhvishwas, desh ka satyanash... playing in the background.

Kamra, whose video has garnered over 4.3 million views in just two days, in his statement on Monday night said: "What I said is exactly what Mr. Ajit Pawar (1st deputy CM) said about Mr. Eknath Shinde (2nd Deputy CM). I don't fear this mob."

"Our right to freedom of speech and expression is not only to be used to fawn over the powerful and rich even though today's media would have us believe otherwise. Your inability to take a joke at the expense of a powerful public figure does not change the nature of my right. As far as I know, it is not against the law to poke fun at our leaders and the circus that is our political system," Kamra insisted.
