The factory was run by one Mohammad Monazir Hussain from his residence, and according to the police, illegal weapons were being manufactured here for the past 21 month.

A joint operation by the special task forces of Kolkata Police and Bihar Police busted an improvised firearms manufacturing unit, which was being operated under the guise of a dish-making factory in Bihar's Munger district.

The factory was run by one Mohammad Monazir Hussain from his residence, and according to the police, illegal weapons were being manufactured here for the past 21 months, Times Of India reported.

The STF of Kolkata Police received intelligence, following which the forces conducted a joint raid in a house in Gazipur under the jurisdiction of Tarapur police station on Wednesday night. During the raid, the security personnel unearthed a secret underground chamber inside the house where improvised firearms were being manufactured.

The police seized firearm equipment and components from the factory, including six 7mm pistol bodies and six pistol butts, a drilling machine, a lathe machine, and a grinding and polishing machine. Besides this, tools and raw materials used for manufacturing firearms was also recovered.

According to a report by India Today, Hussain (27) was assisted by his brother-in-law Nasim and an associate named Irshad Mallick. The arrested accused include Hussain and Nasim, while Mallick remains at large.

A case has been lodged at the Tarapur Police Station, while the police is probing the potential links with any larger network. The arrested accused are being questioned about the involvement of other persons.

With this, the security personnel have managed to bust 14th such illegal arms manufacturing unit in Bihar and in the neighbouring state of Jharkhand over the past three years.

Last month, another illegal gun-manufacturing factory was busted in Bihar's Bhagalpur. The police had seized numerous firearms and raw materials during the raid. These guns had been crossing borders, reaching Bengal for a long time, including those found in Sealdah. After questioning a convicted man who was caught red-handed with the arms, an STF team reached Bihar to undertake investigation based on information from sources.

In 2023, police had busted another firearm manufacturing unit, which was being operated under the guise of a furniture shop in Gaya, Bihar.
