Kerala To Receive 'Very Heavy' Rain, Orange Alert In 3 Districts. Check IMD Forecast

Kerala faces a week of heavy rainfall, with orange alerts for 3 districts and yellow alerts for the entire state.

Kerala is expected to witness heavy rain on Monday as the India Meteorological Department sounded an orange alert for three districts while putting a yellow alert in place for the rest of the state. 

Predicting "very heavy rain", the IMD  issued an orange alert for Wayanad, Malappuram, and Idukki. 

Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Palakkad, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram are likely to receive heavy rainfall with IMD activating yellow alert for these districts. 

The weather department has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall, ranging from 5-15 mm per hour, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 40 km/h in parts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Kottayam districts, reported PTI. 

On Sunday, several parts of the state received significant rainfall until 5:30 pm on Sunday, as per the data from IMD.

Manual observatories recorded 93 mm of rainfall in Kannur Airport, followed by 28 mm in Palakkad, 13 mm in Karipur Airport, and 7 mm each in Alappuzha and Kannur. Punalur reported 5 mm of rain. 

Meanwhile, rainfall recorded by Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) and Automated Rain Gauges (ARG) reported 71 mm in Anakkayam (Malappuram district), 64 mm in Panniyoor (Kannur district), and 62.5 mm in Panathur (Kasaragod district).

The inclement weather condition is expected to remain this week with an orange alert for Idukki on Tuesday and Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur on Wednesday.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Kottayam are expected to receive "very heavy" rainfall on Thursday prompting an orange alert. 

Heavy rain is predicted to lash most parts of the state this week including the districts of Alappuzha, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragode, and Lakshadweep.
