Kerala Police Arrests 284 People In Statewide Crackdown On Drug Trafficking

Operation D-Hunt is being carried out collaboratively by the Range-based NDPS Coordination Cell & District Police Chiefs, under the leadership of State Anti-Narcotics Task Force Head and ADGP Manoj Abraham.

A total of 284 people were arrested and 273 cases were filed linked with its special drive to crack down on suspected drug trafficking, Kerala police said on Sunday. The official statement confirmed that, on March 15, as part of the drive, D-Hunt, police inspected 2,841 people suspected of narcotic trafficking and apprehended 284 of them.

The official statement added that multiple banned contraband, including MDMA (26.433 gram), ganja (35.2 kilo gram) and ganja beedi (193) were seized from the accused, according to a report by PTI.

Operation D-Hunt is being carried out collaboratively by the Range-based NDPS Coordination Cell and District Police Chiefs, under the leadership of State Anti-Narcotics Task Force Head and ADGP (Law and Order) Manoj Abraham, as per the directives of State Police Chief Dr. Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, according to an official statement.  

To facilitate public reporting of drug-related activities, a 24-hour Anti-Narcotics Control Room (9497927797) has been established. The statement assured that the identities of individuals providing information will remain confidential.  

Additionally, the operation will continue in the coming days through ongoing surveillance and the development of a database of individuals frequently involved in drug-related offenses and transactions.

37 Kg MDMA Worth Rs 75 Crore Seized In Karnataka's Mangaluru

Over 37 kg of MDMA valued at Rs 75 crore were seized by Mangaluru Police counting the biggest-ever drug haul in the state, a police official said on Sunday. In connection with the case, two South African nationals were arrested in Bengaluru.

While addressing a press conference, Anupam Agarwal, Mangaluru Police Commissioner stated that the operation was the result of an earlier arrest made six months ago. Police arrested one Haider Ali in Pumpwell, Mangaluru, and confiscated 15 grams of MDMA from him in September.

Further investigations led authorities to a Nigerian national named Peter, who was apprehended in Bengaluru with MDMA valued at Rs 6 crore. The probe uncovered connections to an international drug syndicate operating through air routes between Delhi and Bengaluru, an official stated, news agency PTI reported.

Based on intelligence inputs, the Mangaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested two South African nationals—Bamba Fant (31) and Abigail Adonis (30)—upon their arrival in Bengaluru on March 14. The suspects were taken into custody in Neeladri Nagar, Electronic City, Bengaluru, the senior police officer added.
