Suvendu Alerts Police About 'Kashmiris' With Suspicious Device In Baruipur, Cops Find MP Men With Jio Fiber

Suvendu Adhikari sought an investigation against two "suspicious" individuals in Baruipur who, he claimed, were from Kashmir. The police, however, found nothing suspicious.

As the India-Pakistan tension rises in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, Kashmiris are facing the brunt of the retaliation by many. While many Kashmiri college students across India received threats, Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari sought an investigation against two "suspicious" individuals in Baruipur who, he claimed, were from Kashmir. However, the police gave them a clean chit. The development sparked a volley of replies between the Bengal Police and Adhikari.

'Kashmiris With High-Speed Internet'

Suvendu Adhikari said the two persons "installed a NanoBeam 2AC compact and high-performance wireless network bridge at the rooftop". He said that the network bridge was designed to provide an "efficient and reliable solution for high-speed, long-distance wireless connectivity".

He also put out the address of the individuals and asked the Bengal Police to investigate them.

Police Say 'Engineers With Jio Fiber'

The Baruipur Police took up the matter and launched an investigation into the two persons. However, they couldn't find anything suspicious. In an X post, without naming Adhikari, the police said: "In reality, the two individuals, one of them a Hindu and the other a Muslim, both from Madhya Pradesh, rented a flat in Baruipur about three weeks ago. Engineers by profession, they were exploring business opportunities in pisciculture in West Bengal through a local friend."

On the duo using a "high-speed, long-distance wireless connectivity", the police said: "There is a simple Jiofibre network in their flat as is used by numerous citizens, with nothing suspicious about it."

"It is unfortunate that some people choose to disseminate such inaccurate and potentially inciteful information through social media, instead of communicating it to a state or central agency. We expect citizens to exercise restraint and responsibility while using public platforms without jumping to any conclusions... It also merits mention that any kind of public insinuation against any individual without verifying the facts is legally punishable," the Baruipur Police warned.

'Fish Farmers Need High-Speed Internet?': Suvendu Fires Back

Adhikari, however, was not satisfied with the reply. He questioned why two engineers exploring fish farming needed high-speed internet. "Though you are kind of clearing the people in question here, some things seems off - one Civil Engineer and one Computer Engineer about to start fish farming in South 24 Parganas district !!! They require high speed internet for this purpose," Adhikari said.
