Karnataka Man Dies Hours After Being Tested Positive For Covid-19 In Belagavi

After the first Covid-19 death of 2025 in Karnataka on May 17, another elderly man died at a hospital in the Belagavi district, a senior health department official said on Thursday.

The death was confirmed by Karnataka's Health and Family Welfare department Principal Secretary, Harsh Gupta. The health department sources indicated that the 70-year-old patient, a resident of Benakanahalli village in Belagavi, died late Wednesday night, after he tested positive for COVID-19 in the morning.

As per the news agency PTI, sources said that the man was reportedly suffering from age-related diseases and was admitted to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences District Hospital for treatment. After he tested positive for COVID-19, he was moved to the COVID-19 ward.

On May 17, an 84-year-old man with multiple severe health conditions passed away at a private hospital in Whitefield, Bengaluru, and was confirmed to be Covid-19 positive after his death.

As of May 28, Karnataka reported 126 active COVID-19 cases, including 40 new infections on that day, according to the health department's bulletin. A health department official stated that all district and tertiary care hospitals across the state are equipped and ready to manage COVID-19 cases.

COVID-19 Cases Rise To 3 In Jharkhand

Meanwhile, two additional individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in Jharkhand over the past two days, bringing the total number of cases to three amid a nationwide rise in infections, an official said on Thursday.

"Two fresh cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Ranchi in the past two days. With this, the number of people who tested positive for the infection has reached three," Ranchi civil surgeon Prabhat Kumar told news agency PTI.

The first case in the state during the current wave was detected last week in a person who had recently returned from Mumbai. Of the three infected individuals, two are currently receiving treatment in hospitals, while one is isolating at home, according to Prabhat Kumar.
