JJP Leader Ravindra Minna Shot Dead In Haryana's Panipat, 2 Others Injured; Accused Absconding

JJP leader Ravindra Minna was shot dead in Panipat due to a dispute with Ranbir, who is absconding. Minna's cousin and another person were injured.

Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) leader Ravindra Minna was shot dead in Panipat, while his cousin and another person were injured on Friday. The accused, Ranbir from Jagsi village, is absconding, and police are investigating the case, as per news agency IANS. Minna was JJP's 2024 Assembly election candidate from Panipat city.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was linked to a dispute between the accused and his brother-in-law. According to Amar Ujala, Panipat DSP Suresh Kumar Saini confirmed the incident, stating, “Ravindra alias Meena and two others were shot in Vikas Nagar. Ravindra succumbed to his injuries, and his body has been sent for post-mortem. Based on the family’s statement, legal action is being taken. The accused will be arrested soon.”

According to police, the accused hails from Jagsi village in Sonipat and resided in the same locality—Vikas Nagar in Panipat—as the victim. The injured individuals have been admitted to a private hospital on GT Road in Siwah.

Ravindra Minna Shot Dead Over Sister-In-Law's Marriage

Ravindra (32), a resident of Gali No. 2, Vikas Nagar near the National Fertilizer Limited (NFL) plant, was at home when the incident occurred. His relatives said that the accused, Ranbir, also from Jagsi village, lived in the same lane along with Vinay and Vineet, Amar Ujala's report stated. The dispute reportedly stemmed from the marriage of Ravindra’s sister-in-law to Ranbir’s brother-in-law.

On Friday evening, Ranbir arrived at the house of Ravindra’s neighbour, Rajbir, and asked for water. Vinay also arrived around the same time. Without warning, Ranbir pulled out a pistol and shot Vinay in the stomach. Hearing the gunshot, Ravindra and Vineet rushed to the spot, but Ranbir immediately fired at them—shooting Ravindra in the forehead and Vineet in the stomach, as per the report.

After the attack, Ranbir fled the scene. The victims were rushed to a private hospital in Siwah, where doctors declared Ravindra dead.

Ravindra Meena had contested the 2014 Haryana Assembly elections from the Panipat City seat on a JJP ticket. However, he later supported the BJP candidate Rohita Rewari and joined the party. After some time, he left the BJP and returned to the JJP.

Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspect.
