Orry Booked For Having Alcohol In Katra: What All Is Banned In This Holy Town?

Eight people, including social media influencer Orry, have been booked for allegedly consuming alcohol at a hotel in Katra, the base camp for the Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage.

Eight people, including social media influencer Orhan Awatramani, also known as Orry, have been booked for allegedly consuming alcohol at a hotel in Katra, the base camp for the Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage in Jammu's Reasi district. The Jammu and Kashmir Police registered an FIR against the social media influencer on March 15.

The other people named in the FIR are Darshan Singh, Parth Raina, Ritik Singh, Rashi Dutta, Rakshita Bhogal, Shagun Kohli, and Anastasila Arzamskina. They were informed that consuming alcohol and non-vegetarian food inside the cottage suite was strictly prohibited, as it is forbidden at the sacred Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage site. Despite this, they flouted the orders.

What All Is Banned In Katra?

As per the guidelines issued by Jammu and Kashmir Police, Yatries are not allowed to carry certain prohibited items while performing Yatra. These articles will not be allowed to carry beyond checking and frisking point established at Banganga. The order, which is available on J&K Police website, states that the following items will be confiscated and will not be returned to Yatries if found in the baggage by the Security Staff at the Darshani gate.

  • Liquor - Banned in Katra Town
  • Meat, Fish and Egg - Banned in Katra Town
  • Tobacco, Cigarettes, Bidi, Match Boxes and any other addictive substance - Banned beyond Banganga
  • Lighters, Scissors-metal with pointed tips, Toy weapon - Not allowed beyond Banganga
  • Sharp Objects – Axes, Knives (any length and type), hatchets, Cattle Prods, Crowbars, Hammers, Drills, Razor-type blades such as box cutters, utility knives, razor blades not in a cartridge, but excluding safety razors, Sabers, Sword etc. - Banned beyond Banganga
  • Ammunition, BB guns, Compressed Air Guns, Firearms, Parts of Guns and Firearms, Pellet Guns, Realistic Replicas of Firearms, pistols, Explosives - Banned item. 
  • Fuels (including cooking fuels and any flammable liquid fuel), Gasoline, Gas Torches - Prohibited beyond Banganga
  • Disabling Chemicals and other Dangerous Items - Banned item
  • Video Camera/ Camcorder _ Banned beyond Banganga
  • Nariyals - Banned beyond frisking point at Bhawan
