Jaipur Rains: 3 Dead Due To Drowning, Viral Videos Show Airport Flooded

Jaipur recorded the highest rainfall of 173 mm during this period, the weather office said. Rainwater accumulated on roads and in residential areas, causing significant commuting issues.

Jaipur news: Three people including a six-year-old girl drowned in Jaipur after rainwater gushed into the basement of their house on Thursday morning.

Most areas of the Jaipur city experienced waterlogging due to heavy rainfall that began on Wednesday night and continued this morning.

Jaipur recorded the highest rainfall of 173 mm during this period, the weather office said. Rainwater accumulated on roads and in residential areas, causing significant commuting issues.

The bodies of Kamal Shah (23), Pooja Saini (19) and her niece Purvi Saini were recovered by the SDRF during a rescue operation that lasted several hours

The incident unfolded after the families began removing their belongings after water entered the basement of their house. The passage to the basement of the house is narrow and deep. During this time, three people from two families got trapped in the basement as it started filling with water.

Meanwhile, police said that the residents of the area have been advised not to stay in their basements during rainfall.

Waterlogging was also witnessed outside the Jaipur airport terminal building. Viral videos showed knee-length water outside the Jaipur airport. However, the airport officials said that the waterlogging was for a very brief period due to water in surrounding areas.

In a post on X, the airport authorities said, "Heavy rainfall forecast by the IMD could affect operations at Jaipur Airport. Passengers are advised to arrive early to avoid delays. Jaipur International Airport is dedicated to providing a seamless travel experience."

Another video showed a pilot standing on a luggage cart to enter the airport amid a puddle of water at the gates.

Jaipur Collector Prakash Raj Purohit visited rain-affected areas, such as Vishwakarma area, Sikar Road and Jaipur airport, and directed officials to make necessary arrangements for the situation. Several schools in Jaipur declared a holiday due to the continued rainfall.
