Hindi Letters Painted With Black Ink In Tamil Nadu Railway Station Amid Language Debate

Meanwhile, MDMK MP Durai Vaiko on Saturday reiterated that his party is not against Hindi or any other language but firmly opposes its "forced imposition".

A few miscreants smeared Hindi letters with black paint at the Pollachi railway station in Tamil Nadu amid the ongoing row over three-language policy. The railway officials were quickly alerted regarding the incident, following which a probe was launched.

Now, the Railway Protection Force Pollachi has said that it has identified those involved in the incident and have registered case against them for defacing the board at the Pollachi Junction.

"RPF Pollachi identified the defaulters and registered case under relevent provisions of Railways Act and will be prosecuted. The same was rectified immediately," Southern Railway Palakkad Division said in a post on X.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and DMK supporters have been opposing the three-language policy. The row intensified after a video surfaced, wherein a group of men were seen painting the Hindi letters on the Pollachi Junction railway station name board in black.

We Oppose Forced Imposition Of Hindi: MDMK MP Durai Vaiko

MDMK MP Durai Vaiko on Saturday reiterated that his party is not against Hindi or any other language but firmly opposes its "forced imposition".

Addressing reporters on the three-language policy, the Lok Sabha MP emphasised that Tamil Nadu has progressed significantly in comparison with the northern states since it follows the two-language policy.

"The reason our youth excel in English is because of the two-language policy. Tamil Nadu students have proven their proficiency in various fields. We are not against Hindi or any language, but we oppose its imposition and making it compulsory,” Durai Vaiko stated.

He also questioned why the BJP insists on promoting an Indian language as the third language instead of offering foreign languages such as German, French or Mandarin.

"Prime Minister Modi aspires to make India a global economic superpower, and the people stand with him in this vision. However, why are we not equipping our youth with foreign language skills that could benefit them immensely? In the past, almost all Tamil Nadu schools taught a foreign language, but policy changes have led to its removal," he said.
